The National Writers Union (NWU) is an organization of over 1,600 members dedicated to improving the working lives and economic status of freelance writers. It is affiliated with the United Auto Workers (UAW).
The Western New England Chapter of the National Writers Union was founded in 1989 and is today the preeminent writers’ organization in the region, with about 75 members and a schedule of meetings and events. Although our membership is centered in western Massachusetts (Amherst, Northampton, Springfield, etc.), we also have members in northern Connecticut, eastern New York, and southern Vermont.
Members of the Western New England Chapter are journalists, novelists, nonfiction book authors, scriptwriters, copywriters, poets, academics, business and technical writers, and writers in the new electronic media. You see their work in newspapers and magazines published locally and nationally. You hear their commentary on WFCR, the local National Public Radio affiliate. Their books are in bookstores everywhere. They write for businesses, medical institutions, non-profits, academic institutions, and more.
If you are serious about writing, you should consider joining the National Writers Union. All the information you need is here.
